Wrestling Set for NWCA National Duals (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College wrestling team will return to the mat at the NWCA National Duals on Thursday (Jan. 4) and Friday (Jan. 5), held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The event features teams from multiple divisions including Division II, Division III, NAIA, NJCAA and WCWA. Lake Erie opens the competition against #1 St. Cloud State on Thursday at 9:00 AM.

"The NWCA Multidivisional national duals is a very special event," said Storm head coach Kevin Hoogenboom. "There are few opportunities, where you get to compete against the best teams in a dual format. We will be alongside schools from Division 3, NAIA, NJCAA, and the Women's college division, making it a great atmosphere for competition."

Storm Report: Lake Erie opens 2018 following a near three week layoff for the holidays. The Storm last competed at the Midwest Classic, where the team placed 16th overall and had two wrestlers placed on the podium. Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) finished second in the 165 pound weight class and Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) placed third at 184 pounds.

"We have been telling our guys that this will be greatest team atmosphere that they will compete in during their collegiate years. We were the last team that gained entry into the duals so we want to make the most of the opportunity. We are wrestling a very tough St Cloud State team and ready for the battle. We haven't wrestled our full squad since we won the Mount Union Invite back in early November.  We are finally getting healthy and I'm looking forward to seeing what the full lineup is capable of."
