FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Lake Erie College wrestling team competed at the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals on Thursday (Jan. 4).
Lake Erie went 1-2 on the day. #15 Lake Erie fell in the opening match to #1 St. Cloud State. In the first consolation match, the Storm bounced back with a 26-8 victory over Kutztown. Lake Erie closed out the day with a 28-12 loss against #10 Upper Iowa.
The Storm opened the second dual against Kutztown with three consecutive match wins. Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield), ranked sixth at 125-pounds, won the first match over Austin Petril by a 4-2 sudden victory. 133-pounder Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) followed with a 7-1 decision over Lucas Miller. Sean O'Hearon (Albion, Mich. / -) made it 9-0 Lake Erie with a 4-3 decision against Anthony Petril at 141 pounds. Kutztown got a decision win at 149 pounds as Lake Erie led 9-3 after four matches. The Storm won five of the final six matches for the dual win. Andrew Lieb (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins) won a 9-8 decision at 157 pounds over William Manley. Fifth-ranked Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) defeated Connor Rogovich in an 18-1 technical fall at 165 pounds. Brendan Winning (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) sealed a 3-1 sudden victory over James Meyer in the 174 pound weight class. Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), ranked eighth at 184-pounds, pushed the Storm's lead to 23-3 with a 3-2 decision against Jeff Reimel. Jesse Palser (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) won at 197 pounds with a 3-1 decision against Dominic Mainiero. Kutztown closed the dual with a technical fall at heavyweight. The Storm advanced to the second consolation round with a 26-8 victory.
The Storm won three matches against #10 Upper Iowa but fell 28-12 to the Peacocks. O'Hearon had a 9-3 decision victory against Hunter Slifka at 141 pounds. Vandermeer won his second match of the day by an 18-1 technical fall at 165 pounds versus Tucker Black. Hughes won his 184-pound match against Dalton Hahn by a 13-3 major decision.
O'Hearon, Vandermeer, and Hughes all went 2-1 on the day for the Storm.
Lake Erie will host #12 Pitt-Johnstown in a home dual on January 12th.
