TIFFIN, Ohio – The #23 Lake Erie College wrestling team dropped a dual matchup with the Tiffin University Dragons on Wednesday (Feb. 7) night on the road. The Dragons won the dual 30-12.
Tiffin won the 125, 133 and 141 pound weight classes with falls.
At 149 pounds, Andrew Lieb (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins) battled Collin Adkins in a back-and-forth match that came down that was decided at the end. Adkins tied the match in the third period with two takedowns. With the match tied 8-8, Lieb had accumulated enough riding time to earn the deciding point. Lieb won the match by a 9-8 decision.
The Dragons earned three points with a decision victory at 157 pounds.
Seventh-ranked Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) pulled away following an early takedown in his 165 pound match. Mateo Lybarger reversed an early takedown by Vandermeer, tying the match at two in the first period. Vandermeer ended the first period with a takedown and reversed Lybarger's second period starting position in a 6-2 decision victory.
Tiffin won the 174 pound weight class match with a decision and the 197 pound weight class with a fall.
Ninth-ranked Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) made a first period takedown stand as he controlled the majority of his 184 pound match against Hayden Bronne. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first period, Hughes went on to win the match by a 7-2 decision.
Brandon Houle (Sparta, Mich. / Rockford / Hope) ended the night with a 5-0 decision victory over Caleb Fry at 285 pounds. Houle secured two takedowns and escaped Fry's second period starting position for the victory.
The Storm will face Gannon University on Friday (Feb. 9) on the road at 7:30 PM.
