Storm Travels to Findlay for Super Region 2 Championships (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The #23 Lake Erie College wrestling team will compete at the Super Region 2 Championships, hosted by the University of Findlay on Friday (Feb. 23) and Saturday (Feb. 24). Lake Erie will be one of 14 teams battling for spots at the NCAA Division 2 Wrestling Championships.

Storm Report: Lake Erie finished the dual portion of the schedule with a 7-10 record following a 34-12 loss at #19 Wheeling Jesuit on February 13th. Seventh-ranked Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) and Christopher Droege (Austintown, Ohio / Austintown-Fitch) both picked up decision victories at 165 and 197 pounds, respectively.

NCAA Rankings: Lake Erie remains tied for number 23 in the latest edition of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association Poll, released February 16th. Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) is ranked ninth in the 125 pound weight class. Vandermeer is ranked seventh in the 165-pound weight class while Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) is ninth in the 184-pound weight class.

Regional Rankings: The Storm was ranked sixth in the Super Region 2 Rankings as of February 14th. B. Glogouski is ranked first in the region at 125 pounds. Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) is fifth at 133 pounds. Vandermeer is second in the 165 pound standings. Hughes was ranked third at 184 pounds while Jesse Palser (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) is eighth at 197 pounds. Brandon Houle (Sparta, Mich. / Rockford / Hope) is seventh in the 285 pound rankings.

Technical Falls Leader: Vandermeer is the Division II leader in technical falls with eight. Vandermeer holds the lead with eight tech falls spanning a time of 34:39. He has picked up tech fall victories in duals against Kutztown, Upper Iowa, King and Belmont Abbey at 165 pounds. He also picked up tech fall victories at the Mount Union Invite, Findlay Open and Midwest Classic. He currently has an overall record of 20-8 this season.
