FINDLAY, Ohio – The #23 Lake Erie College wrestling team had four wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa next month after the team competed at the Super Region 2 Championships at the University of Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 24).
Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) won the 125 pound regional title. Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) finished second at 165 pounds. Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Jesse Palser (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) each finished third at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively
Lake Erie finished third of 13 teams with 91 points as seven wrestlers placed in the top six.
B. Glogouski advanced to the finals with a 7-6 decision over Nick Daggett of UNC-Pembroke. In the finals, he won his second consecutive regional title with a 17-9 major decision over Newberry's Austin Neal. Blake has advanced to nationals in both of his two years at Lake Erie.
Vandermeer began Saturday with an 8-5 decision over Brett Scoles of Wisconsin-Parkside in the semifinals. Vandermeer dropped his final round bout against third-ranked Bret Romanzak of Ashland. He will make his fourth consecutive nationals appearance.
Hughes battled back from a semifinal loss to secure third place at 184 pounds. He dropped his semifinal match against fourth-ranked Bradley Metz of Findlay in a 4-2 overtime decision. In the consolation semi, he defeated Hayden Bronne from Tiffin with a 2-0 decision. Hughes clinched third place with a 5-0 decision against 11th-ranked Brody Conner from Indianapolis. Hughes will make his second nationals appearance.
Palser opened the day with a 5-2 decision over Armani Robinson of Findlay in the third consolation round. He followed it up with a 6-3 decision over Coker's Luis Peguero, who was seventh-ranked nationally. He qualified for nationals for the first time with a 6-3 decision over 12th-ranked James Lehman of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) went 1-2 on Saturday for a fifth place finish at 133 pounds. In his first match of the day, he advanced with a 9-2 decision over Jayquon McEntyre of UNC-Pembroke. He fell in the consolation semifinal to King's Dustin Kirk after a third period fall. In the fourth place match, he fell to Ashland's Lawrance Dudgeon in a 3-0 decision.
Sean O'Hearon (Albion, Mich. / -) finished sixth at 141 pounds after a 1-2 day on Saturday. He defeated Robert Mason of Ashland with a narrow 10-9 decision in the third consolation round. He fell in his next two matches by fall, earning a sixth place finish.
The NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 9th and 10th.
