PAINESVILLE, OH - The Lake Erie Storm women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie this afternoon (Sept. 11) against the Ashland Eagles.
Lake Erie freshman Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington North) scored off a cross from freshman Jenna Hanford (North Royalton, OH/North Royalton) with 6:11 to play in the second half. Holland was able to slide the ball past Ashland keeper Krista Herbst from 10 yards out to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.
Ashland's Chelsea Hyatt, though, knocked in her fourth goal of the season just 50 seconds later to knot the score.
The teams played through two overtimes and Storm keeper Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas) was brilliant, stopping four shots in the final 20 minutes. She finished the game with 12 saves in the match.
The Storm (2-2-1) used a terrific offsides trap, halting the Eagles (3-0-1) offsides 16 times in the game. Lake Erie will return home on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Slattery Field to take on the Davis & Elkins College Senators.
