Lake Erie College (3-13-1, 0-12 GLIAC) put forth an inspired effort but fell a goal short in a 3-2 loss to the University of Findlay (7-6-3, 7-5-1) in a GLIAC match at Slattery Field. Freshman forward Misty Porter (Reno, Nev./North Valleys) had her first career multi-goal game in the loss.
The first 20 minutes were saw a flurry of action as each team netted a pair of goal. The Oilers kicked things off at 5:25 when Megan Gallaway scored off a corner kick from Amanda Bachmayer. Just two minutes later, Findlay mishandled the ball deep in their own zone and Porter found the open net to tie the score at 1-1. In the 13th minute, Findlay put together a nice passing sequence, resulting in a point blank goal by Emily Beddoes. In the 20th minute, Porter got her team-high sixth goal when freshman Chrissy Poulos (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) served up a free kick from midfield and Porter headed it home.
The pace finally settled and in the second half play turned physical. Both teams had chances and the winning goal came on a free kick from 35 yards out by Findlay's Erica Ernst in the 67th minute.
Findlay outshot Lake Erie, 19-15, and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks in the evenly played game.
Junor goalkeeper Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) made six saves in the loss.
The Storm is home for their final match of the season this Sunday against Tiffin at 1:00 p.m.
