PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College (1-11-1, 0-9 GLIAC) struck early but it did not hold up in a 3-1 defeat against Ashland University (5-5-2, 4-3-2 GLIAC) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
The Storm scored just 2:16 into the contest as sophomore Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) worked the ball up the left side and sent in a cross which found the head of freshman Meghan Ambrose (Lyndhurst, Ohio) who scored her team-high third goal of the season.
The lead would be short-lived as in the 11th minute of action, Ashland's Lexi Gruich found Megan Zealer five yards out to tie the game. The scored would stay tied at the half.
In the 62nd minute, Haley Frick scored from 10 yards out for the Eagles with what would ultimately be the game's decisive goal. Frick added her second goal of the match less than four minutes later from Katelyn Peterson to give Ashland a comfortable margin.
Ashland won the battle of shots, 19-2, and corner kicks, 6-1.
In goal for Lake Erie, sophomore Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) made six saves with the Lake Erie defense having two more team saves.
The Storm return to action Friday with a 5:30 home match against Saginaw Valley State.
