HOUGHTON, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team held tough defensively throughout the match but were unable to find the back of the net at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Michigan Technological University, falling to the Wildcats 1-0 on Friday (Sept. 20).
Michigan Tech (3-2, 1-0 GLIAC) put a lot of pressure on Storm (1-4, 0-1 GLIAC) goalie Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) but Stroope prevailed, making six saves in the opening half. The Huskies kept the pressure on the Storm defense into the second-half, finally breaking onto the scoreboard in the 61st minute as Katie Boardman scored on a pass from Lindsey Van Rooy. Lake Erie's defense held tough the rest of the half but were unable to crack the Michigan Tech defense as Huskies' goalkeeper Jenna Phelps made four saves in the win.
Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) led the Storm offense with four shots.
The Storm continue their trip to the Upper Peninsula and close out their season opening six-game road trip against Northern Michigan University on Sunday (Sept. 22).
