PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Lake Erie Director of Athletics Reid Guarnieri announced Monday that Valerie Prause has been named head coach of the Storm women's soccer program.

Prause has been an assistant coach with Lake Erie each of the last two seasons, and she was a standout player at Central Michigan from 2007-10.

"We are very excited to announce the hiring of Valerie Prause as our new head coach," said Guarnieri.  "Not only does she have some wonderful local ties, but Val also came highly recommended from some of the game's most respected coaches.  As an assistant coach, she proved herself to be a valuable asset and we believe her attitude, intelligence, and experience as a Division I standout athlete will take Storm Women's Soccer to the next level."

Prause hails from Mentor, Ohio, and has worked not only with Storm players in recent years but with girls club teams in the Cleveland Soccer Academy.

In her college career, Prause was twice decorated as a First Team All-Mid-American Conference performer (2009, 2010), and she was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection (2008-10). She was a two-year captain (2009-10) for a Chippewa program that won two conference titles and made two NCAA tournament appearances. Prause served as a student assistant with CMU women's soccer before graduating from Central Michigan in 2011.

"I want to thank Reid and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead the women's soccer program," said Prause. "I'm excited about the potential of this program and the bright future ahead of us. I'm determined to deliver an outstanding experience both on and off the field for our student athletes. Rage on!"

Lake Erie went 4-12-1 last season.
