PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was defeated by Northern Michigan University today (October 10th), 4-0. With the loss the Storm fall to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference and the Wildcats improve to 3-6-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Northern Michigan opened the scoring in the first half when forward Paula Hafner found the back of the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half the Wildcats widened the margin when forward Carmen Villarruel scored on a header from Kim Rietveld, to make the score 2-0 with 29 minutes left to play in the game.
Northern Michigan took a 3-0 advantage when midfielder Carmen Villarruel netted a header on a cross from midfielder Helen Kiilunen with eight minutes left to play. Two minutes later the Wildcats made the score 4-0 on a goal by Danielle Defries with the assist by Cheyenne Cecchini.
In goal for the Storm was sophomore Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) she faced 11 shots, eight of which were on goal, made four saves and allowed four goals.
