BIG RAPIDS, Mich- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was defeated by Ferris St. University today (October 19th), 6-1. With the win the Storm improve to 5-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference, and the Bulldogs fall to 5-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play.
Casey Shaunman opened the scoring in the first half when off of an assist by Stephanie Garland giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage. Later in the half Abby Meirndorf gave Ferris St. a 2-0 lead when she found the back of the net off of an assist by Riley Wood
In the second half, Meirndorf scored in the second minute of the half off an assist by Hilerie Schatzle to widen the margin to 3-0. A minute later Schatzle gave the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead when she found the back of the net off an assist from Garland. Nichole Boehnke scored off an assist from Leanne Boehm giving Ferris St. a 5-0 advantage with 40 minutes left in the game. The Bulldogs added another goal when Hunter Dolan scored on an assist by Lindsey Scott making the score 6-0.
The Storm made the score 6-1 when sophomore forward Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) scored off of an assist from sophomore forward Kynslie Murphy (Parma, Ohio / Valley Forge) in the 75th minute.
In net for the Storm was senior Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) she faced 21 shots, 14 of which were on goal, made eight saves, and allowed six goals.
Lake Erie College will be back in action when they host Mercyhurst on Tuesday (October 21st) at 7 P.M.
