STORM SET TO OPEN 2014 SEASON: The Lake Erie College women's soccer team is set to raise the curtain on the 2014 season Thursday (September 4) against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan University in the home opener.

LAST TIME OUT: The Storm opens the 2014 season after a 4-12-1 season in 2013. Head coach Valerie Prause will make her head coaching debut after being promoted to head coach this summer after serving for two years as a graduate assistant.

OPPOSITION POSITION: West Virginia Wesleyan begins the 2014 season coming off a 13-4-2 season in which they won the inaugural MEC (Mountain East Conference) conference tournament. The Bobcats return many starters, including two All-MEC first team players- defender Rachel Ritchey and midfielder Abbey Lindblad. The leading scorer from 2013, Lauren Dalton returns as well.

STORM SCOUT: Coach Prause will have a mix of returning starters and incoming freshman on her team in 2014. The leading scorer from a year ago, sophomore Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) returns to lead the offense. Auwah had 19 points in her freshman campaign, with 6 goals and 7 assists. The midfield will include junior Marlena Lesniowski (London, Ont./Catholic Central) and senior Payten Biskupski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City). Senior Grace Ferut (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and sophomore Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) return on defense with senior Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Ohio/Oxford) in the goal. Stroope made 106 saves last season in the net.

FORECAST: The Storm will continue the nonconference homestand with a matchup against Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday (September 6) at 3:00 PM. That game will take place at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
