Storm Falls in Close Opener to Bobcats, 1-0

PAINESVILLE, Ohio-  Lake Erie College opened the 2014 campaign with a hard fought 1-0 defeat to West Virginia Wesleyan College Thursday (September 4th). 

The first half was hard fought, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.  West Virginia Wesleyan had the edge in shots in the first half 8-6.  Sophomore goalie Elizabeth Awauh (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) made four first half saves to keep the score level.

The Bobcats Lexi Battocchi scored the lone goal of the game in the 84th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.  The Storm had a late chance off of a corner taken by sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Roesch (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central)but was unable to convert. 

Lake Erie College had nine total shots, three of which were on goal.  Junior midfielder Marlena Lesniowski (London, Ontario / Catholic Central High)lead the Storm in shots with two for the game.  Awauh faced 14 total shots, nine of which were on goal and made eight saves.

The Storm is back in action on Saturday September 5th at 3 P.M. when they host Wheeling Jesuit.
