GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was defeated today (September 20th) by 10th ranked Grand Valley St., 7-0. With the loss the Storm is 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference and with the win the Lakers are 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Grand Valley opened the scoring at the 27 minute mark of the first half when Marti Corby scored an unassisted goal, to make the score 1-0. The Lakers scored again on a penalty kick by Jayma Martin, to give the Lakers a 2-0 advantage. Grand Valley added a third goal before the end of the half when Sara Stevens scored off of an assist by Mackenzie Fox.
The Lakers added four more goals in the second half and defeated the Storm 7-0.
In net for the Storm was Marissa Brannon (Concord, Oh / Lake Catholic) she faced 40 shots, 23 of which were on goal, and made 16 saves.
Lake Erie will be back in action Friday (September 25th) when they host Saginaw Valley at 11 A.M.
