OWENSBORO, Ky. - For the fourth time this season and second straight contest, the Lake Erie College women's soccer team battled into at least one overtime session.
The Storm fought the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers to a 1-1 draw after double overtimes in a Great Midwest matchup on Thursday (Oct. 5) night.
The Panthers drew the first goal as they scored off of a free kick in the 12th minute. Lake Erie tied the game in the 30th minute when Carley Kandel (Jeromesville, Ohio / Northwestern) scored her sixth goal of the 2017 campaign. Kandel's game-tying goal was aided by an assist from Brett Pauff (Elida, Ohio / Elida). The game was deadlocked 1-1 at the half.
Kentucky Wesleyan outshot the Storm 19-14 over the second half and two overtime periods. Neither team could capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the final 65 minutes as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Lake Erie took 21 shots in the game as ten different players attempted a shot. Anne-Kristin Frank (Koeln, Germany / St. Dominikus Karlsruhe) and Kandel each had four shorts in the contest.
Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio / Lake Catholic) made 12 saves in the contest, despite facing 34 shots total from the Panthers with one goal allowed.
The Storm will continue the road trip with a match Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon at Trevecca Nazarene University.
