Storm Clinches Great Midwest Athletic Conference Playoff Bid

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was defeated today by the Ursuline Arrows, 3-2 in double overtime.

With the result tonight, the Storm has clinched a berth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs.  This marks the first time in program history that the Storm has earned a spot in postseason play.

The Storm jumped out to an early first half lead when Holland Erb (Akron, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) found the back of the net off a rebound from an Ashley Mundey (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) shot.  After 22 minutes of scoreless action, the Arrows tied up the game with a goal, to make the score 1-1. The final 15 minutes of the half were scoreless and the teams entered the intermission deadlocked at 1 goal apiece.

13 minutes into the second half, Lake Erie regained a one goal advantage when Carley Kandel (Jeromesville, Ohio / Northwestern) stole the ball and beat the goalie to give the Storm a 2-1 edge with 30 minutes remaining in the game.  Ursuline tied the game with just under 17 minutes remaining with a goal, to make the score 2-2.  Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie and forced two overtime periods.

With just over a minute remaining in the second overtime period, the Arrows scored the golden goal, to seal a 3-2 win over the Storm.

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (Oct. 28) when they travel to take on Ohio Valley in the quarterfinals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs, with the game set to start at 12 p.m.
