Storm Routs Glenville State

(GLENVILLE, W.Va.) – It didn't take long to get the proverbial and literal ball rolling for the Lake Erie women's soccer team in Tuesday evening's 3-0 route of Glenville State at Morris Stadium. The Storm (2-0) scored on the Pioneers (0-2) just 73 seconds into the game and kept the pressure on throughout the rest of regulation.

Haley Scherer provided that initial score as she found the back of the net for the third time this season. The score remained that way through halftime until Carley Kandel added an insurance goal in the 60th minute.

Holland Erb put the icing on the cake as she made it 3-0 thanks to an assist by Emilie Coyne in the 76th minute.

Megan Biddell added another clean sheet to her record as she made five saves on the night. She faced a total of nine shots. On the opposite end Lake Erie had multiple opportunities on goal. The Storm totaled 14 shots in the game with 11 on target.

In addition to the shot difference, Lake Erie also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

"I'm very proud of the team tonight after a tough, hot game and a long bus ride," said Head Coach Rene Lawrence. "Glenville State was a good opponent and had a system that challenged us in the first half. The team took our halftime adjustments very well and we were able to finish the game strong. I'm proud of the effort and we are now looking forward to start preparing for our next game on Saturday."

With a pair of road contests in the books, the Green and White face a friendly schedule for the next four games. Three of them are at home, but before that stand begins the Storm must travel to nearby rival Notre Dame College on Saturday. Kickoff with the Falcons is set for noon.
