(Canton, Ohio) - Lake Erie women's soccer team took on Malone University (5-1, 2-1 G-MAC) on Thursday afternoon in Canton, Ohio. The Storm gave a valiant effort in the road matchup against the Pioneers but were unable to score as they were defeated by a final score of 3-0.
In the first half, both teams played cautiously to open the game, as each took some time to determine how the other was going to play on the day. The defense remained stout for the Storm until the 20th minute, when Malone was able to break free and score their first goal of the game on the foot of Riley Nicholson. Shortly after scoring the first goal Malone forward Danielle Lung was able to score her fourth goal in two games. Kirsten Hilty added to the lead for the Pioneers in the 58th minute making the score 3-0.
The Storm offense did everything they could to even up the score but were unable to get one into the back of the net against the Malone keeper. Lake Erie junior forward Carley Kandel was able to put up three of Lake Erie's nine shot attempts. Malone was able to outshoot the Storm 19-9 and attempted one more corner than the Lake Erie.
The loss drops the Storm record to 4-2-2 overall, and 1-2-1 in conference play. Next up for the Storm, they will be taking on Walsh University on Saturday, Oct. 5th at 7:30 p.m.
