(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - The Lake Erie women's soccer team were privileged to have three seniors finish their home playing careers by beating Alderson Broaddus, 3-0, on Saturday night at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
Despite a mixture of weather conditions and an hour delay, the Storm played one of its best overall games of the season. The Storm won for the second time and has improved too (7-7-2, 4-7-1 G-MAC), while the Battlers fell to (2-13-0, 0-12-0 G-MAC).
Just three minutes into the match, sophomore Haley Scherer scored her six-goal of the year to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Junior Carley Kandel was able to rebound and score on her own shot after the ball was greatly blocked by the Battler goalkeeper.
Going into the halftime break the Storm lead 2-0. Both teams had to sit through an hour of weather delay, which was not enough from stopping Lake Erie from scoring again.
In the 58th minute, Carley Kandel was able to get a pass over to Bailey Pattison to extend the lead for the Storm. Lake Erie's defense limited the Battlers with scoring opportunities, as they outshot Alderson Broaddus 19-4. Freshman Megan Biddell recorded her six shutouts of the season with two saves.
Lake Erie will conclude the regular season and will go on the road to face Ursuline on Tuesday. The Storm look to make a final push to earn the last spot in the G-MAC playoffs. A win against the Arrows would put them in a prime position. Kickoff for the match will begin at 3:00 p.m.
