Storm Fall Short In Bid For Postseason

(PEPPER PIKE, Ohio) – The season came to an end today for Lake Erie with a 3-2 defeat to local rival Ursuline on Election Day. The Storm (7-8-2, 4-8-1) needed to win or tie with the Arrows (7-7-1, 6-6-1) to clinch a bid to the G-MAC Tournament which starts Saturday.

It was a back-and-forth game with the hosts jumping out to an early 2-0 lead by the 13th minute, but the Storm stayed resilient and fought back to tie it up with two goals separated by just 2:19 later in the half. Carley Kandel (Jr., Jeromesville, Ohio) provided the first for her fifth goal of the season. Juliet Tyma (So., Broadview Heights, Ohio) provided the assist, her first of the year.

The momentum carried on as Kristen Redwood (Jr., Euclid, Ohio) followed with the equalizer, her first of the season, in the 37th minute.

The score remained 2-2 until the Arrows' Hannah Pickens provided the game winner in the 62nd minute. Jarah Froelich tallied the assist as her shot went off the crossbar right before with Pickens following and finding the open left side.

Even with the three goals, goalkeeper Megan Biddell (Fr., Mentor, Ohio) was impressive between the pipes to keep the Storm in the game. She came up with a season-best 14 saves besting her previous total by three. Overall Ursuline outshot Lake Erie 28-24.

The Storm's 2019 campaign concludes as one for the record books in the program's Division II era. Overall Lake Erie tied 2014's squad for most wins in a single season and edged that year's team for best winning percentage.
