Lake Erie College Volleyball Report - Sept. 24

Storm Report (6-11)
The Storm volleyball team came up just short in its last outing on Wednesday (Sept. 23) night at Tiffin, falling to the Dragons, 3-2 (25-23, 26-24, 25-27, 14-25, 13-15). The loss was Lake Erie's eighth in a row since starting the season with a 6-3 record. The Storm won the first two sets of the match by two points apiece, but the Dragons rallied for three straight wins to close the match. The Storm were within two points of winning the third set of the match, 23-20, but could not close it out. Lake Erie never led in the decisive fifth set, but did rally to tie at 11-11. The Dragons, though, scored the next three points to pull away. Bridget Beury (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) tallied 13 kills, while Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) added 11 for the Storm. Lake Erie struggled on attack in the match, striking 29 attacking errors, while also amassing 10 service errors. Paige Baldouf (Marion, Ohio/Marion Pleasant) had 23 digs as one of five Storm players to finish in double figures in that category. Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) added a season-high 42 assists.
The Fairmont State University Falcons dropped their match on Tuesday to the University of Charleston, 3-1. Losses have been the exception for the Falcons thus far, however, as they carry a record of 12-5 (3-1 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) into tonight's match against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Falcons have three players with at least 145 kills. Entering this week, Lizzy Flynn was second in the WVIAC in assists per set at 9.6 and she currently has 428 helpers on the season. Morgan Walls entered the week second in digs per set at 5.04.

Entering this week, the Storm was 20th in the country with 2.34 blocks per set.
· Brittany Raggets (Eastlake, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) is 41st in the country in digs per set with 4.69. Meanwhile, Walter entered the week 48th in the country in aces per set with 0.58.
· The Storm is 3-2 in five-set matches this season. Lake Erie also has a plus-.500 record in second sets this season, going 9-8.
· Lake Erie will host three tri-matches on Saturdays next month (Oct. 3, 10 and 31).
