Lake Erie College (0-2, 0-1 GLIAC) showed signs of promise but could not hang with the University of Findlay (3-3, 1-0 GLIAC), in a 3-0 defeat at the Jerome T. Osborne Athletic & Family Wellness Center in Painesville, Ohio
The Storm fell by a count of 25-8, 25-22, 25-12.
The Lake Erie attack was led by sophomore outside hitter Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) who tied for the match high with eight kills and made just two errors. Findlay was led by Samantha Granger who tallied eight kills without an error.
Junior liberio Paige Baldauf (Marion, Ohio/Marion Pleasant) had a nice game for the Storm defense with 14 assists while senior setter Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) led the LEC passers with 13 assists.
The Storm struggled out of the gate, with the Oilers scoring seven of the matches first eight points. UF also scored the final eight points of the set for the 25-8 advantage.
Lake Erie composed its in set two, and hit for a solid .140 percentage. Five straight LEC points gave the Storm their first lead of the day at 9-7 and Lake Erie stayed on top throughout the back-and-forth set, holding a 22-20 advantage late in the game. The Oilers killed three straight balls and Lake Erie made a pair of attacking errors to give Findlay the set.
An O' Connor ace started the third set and Lake Erie led 2-0 before seven straight Oiler points put them in control for good.
The Storm gets back in action quickly as they host No. 11-ranked Hillsdale College tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
