Lake Erie's Winning Streak Snapped By Wildcats
Looking to extend its winning streak to three matches, Lake Erie College (2-5, 1-4 GLIAC) was denied in three sets by Northern Michigan University (4-5, 3-2 GLIAC) at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center.
The Wildcats took the match by a count of 25-18, 25-18, 25-16.
Lake Erie got off to a slow start in the first set as Northern Michigan jumped out to 12-3 advantage. The Storm fought its way into the set but could never make up that early gap, falling 25-18.
Nice play from freshman Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) – seeing her first career action – and Richardson in the second set helped Lake Erie to a lead the first half of the second set, as late as 12-11. Four straight points gave the Wildcats the advantage and they kept the momentum to take the set, 25-18.
Northern Michigan rode that wave through intermission and into the third set, taking a 5-1 lead and keeping command for its entirety en route to a 25-16 advantage.
The Wildcats had a huge advantage finishing plays with a 38-17 edge in kills.
Lake Erie embarks on a three game road trip with the next match coming Wednesday at Ohio Dominican University.
