PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Lake Erie College (2-7, 1-6 GLIAC) was competitive in all three games but was denied its first road victory of the season in straight sets by Tiffin University (2-10, 2-5 GLIAC) at the Gillmor Center in Tiffin, Ohio.
The Dragons took the match by a count of 25-15, 25-19, 27-25.
A big key to the match was blocking, as Tiffin held an impressive 13-4 edge in the area, including six solo blocks. The Dragons also got a huge match from Danielle McQuade with 14 kills paired with just two errors.
Lake Erie's attack was led by sophomore middle hitter Kristin Swann (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester). Senior setters Lauren Bogatay (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) each tallied double digit assists.
In set one, Tiffin broke out to a 9-3 advantage and never looked back. Set two tight early on until seven straight Dragon points gave the host a 12-7 advantage. Lake Erie cut the deficit to 13-12 on a Swann kill but could not get back on top in the set.
Undiscouraged, Lake Erie played its strongest set of the match in set three. A kill from sophomore Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and a Tiffin attack error gave the Storm their first of four set points at 24-21, but the Dragons used five kills down the stretch to secure victory.
Lake Erie continues its road trip with a tough test at GLIAC foe Ashland University Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
