Six Seniors Contribute As Storm Falls On Senior Day

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College (3-23, 1-18 GLIAC) honored six seniors playing their final collegiate match but were unable to send them out in winning fashion as the fell to Ashland University (14-12, 12-7 GLIAC) in three sets at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center.

The Storm fell by a count of 25-16, 25-21, 25-11.

The six seniors – Bridget Beury (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele), Lauren Bogatay (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), Kayleigh Collins (Saline, Michigan/Saline), Michelle Naab (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton), Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) and Rachael Smallwood (Carlisle, Ohio/Carlisle) – all played key roles in the match.

One of the biggest contributions came from Collins, who had four kills and hit for a .375 percentage in just her second game back from an injury which kept her out for the last two and a half season.  Naab led the team with five kills.  O'Connor led the Storm with nine assists

In the first set, led 6-3 early but five straight Ashland points gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish as the set stayed close until a lake AU run.  The second set was the best of the match as Lake Erie had 12 kills and just four errors.  The Storm led 17-13 but Ashland scored nine of the next 10 points to keep Lake Erie from tying the match.  Ashland used that momentum to jump out to a big lead in the third set and didn't look back.
