SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio--The Lake Erie College volleyball team (2-5, 0-2 GLIAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and stopped a Notre Dame College (2-10) comeback short, to win their second match of the season, 3-2, in nearby South Euclid on Tuesday night (Sept. 18).
The Storm took the first set 25-16. They carried that momentum into the second half, taking it 25-19.
Trailing by two sets, the Falcons started to mount a comeback. The Falcons held the Storm at bay in the third set, winning it 25-17. Using the momentum from the set three win and their home crowd, the Falcons stopped the Storm again in the fourth set, 25-21, to to tie the match at two, and move on to the all deciding fifth set.
The Falcons had the momentum going into the fifth set. However, the Storm proved to be too much for the Falcons, winning the fifth set 15-12, and the match 3-2.
Junior Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) led the storm with 16 kills and 5 digs. Classmate Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) tallied seven kills and two aces. Senior Rachel Ritt (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) led Lake Erie with 14 digs.
The Storm return to action Friday night (Sept. 21), against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Northern Michigan University (9-2, 2-0 GLIAC) at the Jerom T. Osborne Athletic Center in Painesville at 7 p.m.
