COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lake Erie College volleyball team was defeated today by Ohio Dominican in straight sets. With the loss the Storm falls to 7-18 overall and 2-13 in the conference, and with the win the Panthers improve to 14-13 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
The Storm scored six of the first seven points and jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set. The Panthers batted back to tie the first set at 10-10. Both teams continued to battle as neither team was able to pull away, but the Panthers won the first set (25-22). The Storm was led by Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) she tallied a set high 10 digs.
Ohio Dominican took an early 9-2 lead in the second set, which forced a Lake Erie timeout. The Storm fought back with a 4-0 run to cut the Panthers lead to 21-18 and forced an Ohio Dominican timeout. The Panthers came out of the timeout and won the set (25-19). Madison Russell (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) led the way for the Storm offensively with eight kills in the first two sets.
The Panthers took an early advantage in the third set and maintained their lead to win the final frame (25-10).
Offensively, the Storm was led by Kedroske who had a team high nine kills. Defensively Kedroske, Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield), and Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) each tallied double digit digs with 16, 13, and 10 respectively.
Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on Tiffin at 2 P.M.
