PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Storm volleyball team at Lake Erie College will resume their longest home stand of the year with two more conference matches this weekend at the Osborne Center. Lake Erie will host the Lake Superior State Lakers at 7:00 PM on Friday (Oct. 7) and the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals at 2:00 PM on Saturday (Oct. 8).
Storm Report: Lake Erie reached double digit wins for the first time since the 2009 season with a 3-1 win over Grand Valley State on Saturday (Oct. 1). Currently, the Storm is 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the GLIAC.
GLIAC Honorable Mention: Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Ooltewah) was named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention list for the South Division this week. Barrett totaled 21 kills, one service ace, eight digs, ten solo blocks and three block assists.
Quick Digs: The Storm have a 2-1 record at home…the team is currently 2nd in the GLIAC with 820 kills and 1062 digs…Lake Erie is third in the conference with 119 total blocks…Individually, Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) is 3rd in digs with 266 and Barrett leads the conference with 27 solo blocks and 64 total blocks.
Series History: Lake Erie has had some success against the Lakers as the head-to-head series is tied 3-3. The Storm swept the Lakers last year 3-0. Lake Erie is winless in seven contests with the Cardinals as Saginaw Valley took last year's contest 3-1.
Opposition Position: The Lakers enter the matchup with a 1-14 overall record and a 0-7 GLIAC record. Lake Superior State has dropped 12 straight matches, including a 3-0 loss to Tiffin last weekend. Saginaw Valley is 7-8 on the year with a GLIAC record of 3-4. The Cardinals defeated the Ashland Eagles 3-2 last time out.
Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will conclude the home stand with a Tuesday (Oct. 11) matchup against Northeast Ohio rival Notre Dame College.
