PAINESVILLE, Ohio-The Lake Erie College volleyball team completed a three game sweep with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) straight sets win over the Notre Dame Falcons on Tuesday (Oct. 11) night at the Osborne Center.
Lake Erie moved closer to the program record for wins as they improved to 12-7 on the year.
Lake Erie stormed out to a 6-2 lead in the first set before Notre Dame called a timeout. Following the timeout, the Falcons hung in before the Storm began to pull away late in the set. Lake Erie won the first set 25-17.
Notre Dame took an early lead in the second set with a 4-2 lead. Lake Erie went on an 8-3 run to regain the lead. The Falcons took a timeout and Lake Erie continued to keep up the pressure for the second set win at 25-17.
The third set featured the Storm opening with a 5-0 run. The Falcons cut the lead to two but could not muster a comeback. Lake Erie went wire-to-wire for a sweep of the Falcons.
Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Ootlewah) led the Storm offense with 11 kills. On defense, she had two solo blocks and four block assists. Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) added ten kills and a team-high .600 hitting percentage. Lombardo had two solo blocks and three block assists.
For the match, the Storm had a hitting percentage of .283.
The Storm will be back in action this weekend with a trip to the Mizuno Midwest Region Crossover in Illinois.
