Storm Drops Three Five Set Matches

AURORA, Ill. - The Lake Erie College volleyball team fought hard but dropped three matches in five sets while at the Mizuno Midwest Region Crossover in Aurora, Illinois this weekend. On Friday (Oct. 14), Lake Erie fell 3-2 (14-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-21, 16-18) to the University of Indianapolis. On Saturday (Oct. 15), Lake Erie fell to Truman State 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 9-15) and Missouri-St. Louis 3-2 (25-22, 30-28, 25-27, 26-28, 16-18).

With the three losses, Lake Erie is now 12-10 on the season.

Against Indianapolis, Lake Erie rallied from down two sets to force the fifth set. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) and Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tn. / Ooltewah) led the way with 12 kills, while Kedroske also had 20 digs. Lexi Lombardo (11) (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) and Bethany Fisher (10) (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) has double-digit kills in the match.  Lombardo had four block assists while Fisher made three block assists. Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) had 18 digs on defense with 47 assists. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) added 16 digs and Madison Russell (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) had 12 digs on defense.

Lake Erie and Truman State went back and forth on day two of the Crossover. The match featured 26 ties and eight lead changes. In the match, Lombardo led the offense with 20 kills and a team-high .421 hitting percentage, while Kedroske added 14 kills. On the defensive side, Fletcher led the way with 32 digs. Kedroske had 15 while Thomas and Jamie Riley (Prospect, Ohio / Olentangy) had 12 digs each.

In the final match of the weekend, the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead but fell in the fifth set. Fisher had a match-high 22 kills, with Kedroske had 18 kills and Barrett finished with 14. Fletcher had 33 digs, leading Lake Erie. Kedroske assisted the defense with 16 digs as did Thomas. Lombardo had five service aces.

Lake Erie will be back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 18) as they will participate in a tri-match with Central State and Urbana.
