BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the All-GLIAC Volleyball Awards on Saturday (Nov. 19) in conjunction with the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals taking place. The awards were voted on by the coaches of the GLIAC schools.
Two Lake Erie players were awarded for their performances in the 2016 season. Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Ooltewah) was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team while Sydney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.
Barrett appeared in 138 sets, spanning 34 sets (through the GLIAC First Round) for the Storm. In 138 sets, Barrett is third on the team with 293 kills with an average of 2.12 kills per set. Serving, she finished with 19 aces, tied for second on the team. She had 70 digs on defense. Barrett finished second in school history with 138 total blocks on defense. She had 56 solo blocks and 82 block assists throughout the season. On November 1st against Ohio Dominican, Barrett set a season-high with ten blocks (two solo, eight assisted) on her Senior Night.
Fletcher was named to the Honorable Mention team as she played in 138 sets, over the span of 34 sets. Fletcher was second on the team with 106 set assists. She led the team with 31 service aces this season. As a defensive specialist, Fletcher led the team with 584 digs, for an average of 4.23 digs per set. She finished second in the GLIAC for digs.
The Storm will face Ashland in the GLIAC Semifinal today (Nov. 19).
