Storm Begins Great Midwest Play With Homestand (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- After eight matches away from the Osborne Center, the Lake Erie College volleyball team will open the home portion of the 2017 schedule with four matches this weekend at home. Three of the four matches will be Great Midwest contests.

Davis & Elkins comes to the Osborne Center for a G-MAC match on Thursday (Sept. 14). Friday (Sept. 15) will have a doubleheader with Flagler (3:30 PM) and Alderson Broaddus (7:00 PM). The weekend will conclude with a match against Ohio Valley on Saturday (Sept. 16).

Storm Report: Lake Erie went 5-3 over the first two weekends of the 2017 season. The Storm went 3-1 at the Cal Vulcan Invite last weekend with wins over Daemen, California (Pa.) and Le Moyne. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) leads the Storm with 116 kills and Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) has 160 digs on defense.

Opposition Position: The Davis & Elkins Senators are 2-5 this season after a 1-2 weekend at the Cal Vulcan Invite. Flagler is a perfect 3-0 following a 3-0 win over Florida Tech on September 2. The Saints had their last four matches cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. Alderson Broaddus is 5-5 for the 2017 season after they swept Salem International 3-0 in their last match. Ohio Valley enters the week with a 4-4 record after the Fighting Scots went 4-0 at the Concord Classic.

Series History: Lake Erie has had prior matches with three of the four teams on the homestand. The Storm have dropped three of the four matches in the series with the Senators. Lake Erie defeated the Senators 3-1 in the match last season. The Storm holds a 3-1 advantage over the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus, including three straight match wins. Lake Erie is 3-0 against the Fighting Scots with the teams not facing off since 2010.

Storm Forecast: The Storm will travel to Ursuline on Tuesday (Sept. 19) for a Great Midwest contest.
