The Lake Erie College Storm will open up their 2019 season at home tomorrow, Saturday, September 21 with two matches. They will host a rematch against Pitt-Johnstown at 11 am and then play Urbana at 3 pm.
The Storm has an overall record of 1-8 through their first two tournaments, and a match against Atlantic Region powerhouse, Seton Hill. Their only win of the season so far came against Davenport University, in which the Storm rolled over the Panthers in a 3-1 decision after winning the first two sets with final set scores of 26-24.
On September 6, the Storm lost to Pitt-Johnstown with a final score of 3-1. In that match, Storm setters Alexandria Beccera and Hallie Zumack both recorded double-doubles. Beccera accrued 17 assists and 11 digs, while Zumack recorded 19 assists and 12 digs. Offensively, senior Hailey Nielsen led the team with 11 kills, and junior Carolin Santa added ten kills. Pitt-Johnstown comes to Painesville with an overall record of 5-2, and are coming off a four-game win streak, including their most recent win over Mercy College.
Urbana has an overall record of 2-5, coming off a loss against Mercyhurst with a final score of 3-1. Courtney Niesen, junior libero for the Blue Knights, has accrued 186 digs through seven matches in 2019, averaging 6.2 digs per set.
Admission for the day is $5.00, with the exception of children under the age of seven. All Lake Erie College faculty, staff, and students get in free with their LEC IDs. There will be a concession stand with food and beverages throughout the day, as well.
