Storm Rolls Over Marauders

The Lake Erie Storm volleyball team picked up a strong win over Central State University with a final score of 3-0 tonight. Set scores were 25-18, 25-17, and 25-15. The Storm had a team hitting percentage of .265, a season-high for 2019, with 39 kills and only 13 errors.

The Storm got off to a slow start, going point for point with Central State until it was 10-9 in favor of the Storm during the opening set. A pair of points by Taylor Metzler and a kill by Alexandria Beccera put the Storm up 13-10, and a pair of kills by Courtney Rosebrook gave Lake Erie a two-point lead after giving up a bit of a Marauder run. Metzler helped secure the first set for the Storm, earning four kills to force set point, before a service error by CSU gave the Storm a first set win.

Metzler, a freshman, led the Storm on the court tonight, earning 16 kills on 25 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .600, and recording 10 digs on defense. This is the fourth match that Metzler has recorded a double-double, after recording two in the tri-match on Saturday.

Dora Olah and Courtney Rosebrook also recorded seven kills respectively. Alexandria Beccera stepped into the role as the primary setter in tonight's match, with 34 assists to help her hitters achieve success. Senior Tashelle Piegan held the defense down, digging out 20 balls as the libero for the match.

"We had a really long day on Saturday, playing two five-setters in our tri-match.", said head coach Kyle Peck. "We had one day to turn around and play without having a practice day to focus in on making adjustments heading into this week. We got to a slow start on passing, but overall I am really proud of the effort the girls showed. We hit a pretty good percentage against a really athletic Central State team. I am really happy with the result, but I'm also ready to prepare for G-MAC on Friday with Tiffin."

The Storm opens up G-MAC season on Friday with Tiffin. The match will take place in the Osborne Center at 7 pm. General admission for the match is $5.00, but children under the age of seven recieve free admission. Lake Erie College faculty, staff, and students get in free with their LEC ID.
