Volleyball Struggles Against Panthers


The Lake Erie Storm lost their match against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers this afternoon with a final score of 3-0. With the loss, the Storm falls to 8-11 with a G-MAC record of 2-3, while the fifth place Panthers improve to 3-2 in the conference and a .500 record with eight wins and losses respectively.

Set scores for the match included a 18-25 loss in the first set, followed by a 17-25 point loss in the second. The Storm fought hardest in the third set, scoring 21 points, including a run late in which Lake Erie was down 13-22. The team scored three points with Tashelle Piegan at the service line with the help of two KWC attack errors and a service ace by the senior, to make the score 16-22. The Storm gave up a point to give Kentucky Wesleyan their 23rd point in the set, but the Storm fought more. Paige Allen earned a kill, followed by three consecutive blocks by a combination of Storm hitters Courtney Rosebrook, Taylor Metzler, and Maria Blatnik. The run cut the Panther lead to three points, 20-23. The Storm allowed another Panther point to give their opponents match set, but junior Courtney Rosebrook was not done fighting, earning one more kill before the Panthers were able to secure the final set with a score of 21-25. 

Although the Storm had a team hitting percentage of .099 against Kentucky Wesleyan, r. sophomore Paige Allen was 4-9 with a hitting percentage of .444. Freshman Taylor Metzler led the team in kills, recording eight, and a hitting percentage of .211. She also led the team in digs with 12. Alexandria Becerra recorded 23 assists, and freshman Kaylee Hiser added 11 digs to the defensive effort. Rosebrook was credited with two block assists and a solo block, while sophomore Maria Blatnik added two block assists.

The Storm will be anxiously awaiting the results of the Midwest Region Crossover seeding that will be taking place on Monday, before heading down the road to South Euclid to face Notre Dame College in a weekday evening matchup on Tuesday, October 15, at 6pm.
