Griffith and Lancaster Better School Mark Again to Lead Storm Men at Wilmington Fall Classic

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - When the 2009 cross country season began, the Lake Erie College record in the men's 8,000-meter race was 28:48, but junior Kyle Griffith (Painesville, Ohio/Harvey/Capital) has already bettered that mark considerably twice in three races at that distance. He broke the record he set one month ago by 15 seconds, clocking in at a time of 26:51 on Friday night (Oct. 16) at the Wilmington Fall Classic to lead the men's team to a 13th-place finish.

Freshman Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) finished the race in 27:02 which was four seconds faster than the 27:06 Griffith ran at the Ric Sayre Invitational in Canton, Ohio Sept. 12. Griffin placed 26th and Lancaster 35th out of 265 runners in the 26-team event.

In addition, freshman Devin O'Neill (Concord, Ohio/Mentor) ran a personal-best 28:05 to place 71st. Freshman Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde), sophomore Zach Adams (Dellroy, Ohio/Carrollton), and freshman David Gobrogge (Akron, Ohio/Green) rounded out the Lake Erie contingent. Gerber finished in 29:29, Adams in 30:47 and Gobrogge in 31:17.

The Storm will be idle until competing in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional meet for the first time on Nov. 7 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
