Cross Country Prepped for Regional Championships

NOVEMBER 6th, 2015

The Lake Erie College cross country team will compete at the 2015 NCAA Regional Championships for a shot to qualify for the National Championships.

LAST TIME OUT: The Storm competed at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships.  Brandon Green (Eastlake, Ohio/North) had the top finish for the Storm men, placing 22nd with a program-best time of 25:33.  As a team, the men finished ninth.  Taylor Ritchie (Salem, Ohio/United Local) had the top finish for the women, placing 89th with a time of 25:47.9.

REGIONAL DISTANCES: The women will run a 6k while the men run a 10k.

HEAD COACH GRANT LOFDAHL ON THE STORM MEN: "Our men are running with a purpose and a lot of confidence right now. We've had a couple of solid workouts since the GLIAC Championships and I know that the guys are not content to just have an excellent conference performance -- they want to close the season right with a big effort at regionals as well. This will be the first time all season that we've raced on a truly flat, fast course, so we're looking to break the school records both team-wise and individually for the 10K distance. A top-15 team finish, with such a young, mid-distance oriented group, would be a great result for us."

HEAD COACH GRANT LOFDAHL ON THE STORM WOMEN: "This will be the first time in several years that Lake Erie has sent a women's team to the regional championships, and I believe that our ladies are going to do quite well. The GLIAC is so unbelievably deep and talented, it was a little bit disheartening to finish last, knowing how much we've improved this year. There should be some teams at this regional meet that we can compete with, no doubt. The number one goal is to compete to the best of our ability, and if we do that we can break the school record for team 6K average that we set at All-Ohio a few weeks back."
