The Storm men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Big Rapids, Michigan this weekend for the GLIAC Championships. The meet will be Lake Erie's last in the GLIAC before a move to the G-MAC conference next year, and will take place at Katke Golf Course with the women's 6K race at 11:00 Am followed by the men's 8K race at 11:45.
"I haven't been this excited for a cross country meet in a while," said Storm coach Grant Lofdahl. "Our runners have put in a lot of great work since last summer, and now it's time to make that work pay off. The course layout at Katke is spectator and runner-friendly, and should be conducive to some fast times."
"The women have made some good strides in their training over the past month, and we're ready to compete," Lofdahl said. "We've talked a lot about closing the gaps between each runner, and they've done this in workouts. If they can put it together on Saturday, we should have our best team finish in our last year in the GLIAC."
Seniors D.J. Graham and Vince Horning, along with sophomore Jordan Pritchard, give the Storm men's squad a solid 1-2-3 punch. In 2015 the LEC men placed 9th, the first top-10 conference finish for the program.
"Our guys have had a nice season to this point, but this meet and regionals are what we've been pointing toward all along," noted Lofdahl. "They set some ambitious goals back in August, and they're in position to achieve those. We'd like to be in the top-7 overall. It will take a great effort from the whole team, but they have the fitness to do it."
